Why should you travel to Sapa? Lying in the northwest of Vietnam and near the border of China, Sapa is much worth visiting. Same as other places in the northwest, Sapa is surrounded by terraced rice fields, high mountains. Especially, Fansipan - the highest mountain in the Indochinese Peninsula (comprising Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia) - which is challenging for adventurers.

Nowadays, Sapa has been attracted more and more visitors thanks to the development of tourism. Consequently, the original beauty of Sapa has been affected day by day by modern features, hopefully people there can still keep their traditions and cultures.

The best time to travel to Sapa

Well, you can actually visit Sapa anytime you want thanks to the development of transportation and the system of highway. However, as mentioned, Sapa is a highland town surrounded by high mountains, so the way leading to Sapa might be impacted because of the rainfalls. Therefore, you should care about the weather, especially the downfalls when planning visiting Sapa as the road will be slippery and quite dangerous.

The weather in Sapa

Wet season

The wet season lasts from June to September, and it is not a good choice to visit Sapa. The period from June to September also coincides with high domestic season so it might be crowded and surrounded by domestic tourists.

From September to mid-December, the weather is perfect for sight-seeing, photo-taking and camping trips, making it one of the best times to visit Sapa. The temperature ranges from 15 – 25 degree Celsius. This is not a rainy season so the trekking routes are dry and bear which helps do longer treks, and possibly conquer Mount Fansipan. In winter, the temperature is much cooler that you should wear warm clothing (good waterproof jacket, sweater, wool socks). Also, during the winter months there are periods of light rain and heavy fog. Therefore, you might have a chance to admire the cloudy sightseeing and take fantastic photos.

From late December to February, the temperature in Sapa might be at the number of zero and be affected by cold winds stemming from China. Thus, this might not be a good time to take a trip there, but if you love snow and winter, don’t forget to check it out. Just remember to avoid trekking, hiking, other adventurous activities.

Dry season

The dry season is from January to June, but from January to February, tourists might feel the chilly weather and cold air. March to May is another great time to travel to Sapa, with sunny days, good weather and fresh air. June is an unstable month; sometimes wet season comes earlier in mid-June, so tourists should be mindful of June, too.
